Kitchenware made from Olive Wood is one of the most sought after kitchenware in the market. Although they are not the only wooden kitchenware in the market, there are specifics reasons why folks seek to buy Olive Wood kitchenware more than the other wooden kitchenware.

This increasing demand can be pinned on the fact that kitchenware made from Olive Wood such as cooking spoons, spatulas, bowls, salad servers, ladles, lemon squeezers, rolling pins, nutcrackers, chopping/cutting boards, chopsticks, kitchen mortars, and honey dippers, are rare and scarce due to the slow growth property of the olive trees.

Not only are that this kitchenware such beauties to behold unlike the other utensils made from steel, iron, and copper. Also, they are durable, fine-grained, odourless, stainless, and strong. And no matter how long they spend in your kitchen, they remain smooth, unchanging, and in one piece.

Regardless of the durability of the Olive Wood kitchenware, if they are not properly maintained, they are likely to experience a few changes that we wouldn’t like to see. So in order to avert seeing our pretty looking wooden kitchenware in bad shape, we need to care for our Olive Wood kitchenware properly.

4 Ways To Take Care Of Your Olive Wood Kitchenware

1. Washing And Drying

The best way to wash your Olive Wood kitchenware is to hand wash them, and not put them in the dishwasher. The temperature of the dishwater might cause your utensils to crack and get over dried, which is not good for the utensils.

This is the reason you have to hand wash them yourself with warm water and mild detergent/liquid wash. Then you rinse with warm water. Never soak your wooden utensils in water to avert swelling and peeling.

After washing, you proceed to dry them immediately. You can decide to hang them to dry, or at best wipe away the moisture with a drying towel.

2. Oiling

The oiling of your Olive Wood kitchenware is dependent on the frequency of use. The rate at which you use them will determine how often you need to oil them. If they are used frequently, you have to oil once a week, but if you seldom use them, oiling once in two months is allowed.

To oil, your Olive Wood utensils, apply either Olive Oil or Mineral Oil on the utensils from top to bottom and allow the oil sit on the utensils for one or two hours, after which you clean off the excess oil, and store in a cool, dry place.

Frequently oiling will keep your utensils long lasting and shiny.

3.  Sanitizing

Sanitizing your Olive Oil kitchenware is a sure way of reducing the spread of bacteria from the wooden utensils to your meals. To sanitize your Olive Wooden utensils, wash your utensils first as explained above, then you immerse your utensils in a hydrogen peroxide/water solution for a little above ten minutes, after which you rinse the utensils and allow them dry.

4.  Neutralizing

Since your Olive Wood kitchenware can soak up the strong aroma of some spices such as onion or garlic, it is best that you neutralize your utensils of any strong aroma that might have stuck to it over a while.

To neutralize, rub the exterior part with lemon juice or a paste of baking soda and water. This will help reduce the smell and return the utensils to their original smell.

Kitchenware made from Olive Oil is unlike wooden utensils made from other trees, and they are meant to be well maintained and properly taken care of to make them last longer.
